Selection of Volunteers
Lifetouch, in partnership with our national educational association partners throughout North America (collectively, “Sponsors”) are sending volunteers on the Lifetouch Memory Mission to Guatemala. If you would like to know whether a national education association that you are affiliated with is a Sponsor of this year’s Lifetouch Memory Mission, please inquire here. Even if you are not affiliated with one of these national organizations, you are still welcome to apply to participate in the Lifetouch Memory Mission if you meet the qualifications.
Members of AASA, NAESP, NASSP, National PTA, School Board Members, and educators who will be 21 years of age as of January 18, 2023. Participants of the past Memory Missions are not eligible.
On or about September 19, 2022 a random drawing will be held to select volunteers. Volunteers will be notified by telephone or email. The odds of being selected depend on the number of applications received.
Memory Mission dates are Wednesday, January 18 through Wednesday, January 25, 2023.
We will be supporting a rural community in Guatemala, located in the department (state) of Chimaltenango. This department is approximately two hours from Guatemala City and about 30 minutes from Antigua.
A passport valid through August 1, 2023, is required for travel to Guatemala. Visit http://travel.state.gov/ or http://passportcanada.gc.ca for information and fees. Obtaining a passport can be an involved process. Allow an appropriate length of time for this process. The volunteer must pay any fees for this service.
While the cost of sending volunteers is borne by Lifetouch through company contributions and by fundraising efforts of sponsors, employees, friends and families, we encourage participants to help fundraise to offset the cost of building materials, supplies and expenses.
Transportation, Meals, & Lodging
Lifetouch will arrange all the transportation, hotel and meals for each volunteer. All volunteers will travel by coach air transportation from their nearest major airport to a US national hub chosen by Lifetouch. Then the entire group will travel together to Guatemala City, Guatemala. They will take a private bus to our hotel. They may be required to share bedrooms. Men and women will be housed separately. Communal meals will be provided.
