LIFETOUCH MEMORY MISSION
®We’re Building a Bottle School
We are continuing our twenty-year tradition of serving communities in need around the world through the Lifetouch Memory Mission. The Memory Mission enables company employees and National Educational Partners to travel worldwide to provide intensive volunteer services.
We are committed to keeping volunteers safe and healthy and are optimistically planning our next Memory Mission for January 2024 in Guatemala.
The Memory Mission team will work with the local community to build an environmentally responsible schoolhouse made from bottles and inorganic trash. In rural communities where literacy rates are the lowest in the country, the 2024 Memory Mission helps empower new skills, a heightened sense of local pride, and confidence to tackle future development obstacles that will impact generations to come.
Nearly 40 volunteers representing our national partners in education and company employees will work side by side with members of the local community to construct the bottle school.
Empower a community. By using plastic bottles found in the community and filling them with inorganic trash, students and volunteers provide the eco -bricks that form the walls of a new school building. The project is an investment in educating and empowering students’ capacity to find local solutions for local problems and bring about massive change.
Create a reminder. The bottle classroom stands as an example of putting what is learned about repurposing waste into practice. The structure is estimated to last 100 years.
Build a new space for community growth. Each structure provides a clean, dry, well-lit room for learning.
Bottle classrooms are just the start. Each project is a step towards creating access to educational opportunities and developing environmental consciousness.
